Security Starts with Control: Keeping Hackers Out and Trust In
During the NetDiligence Cyber Risk Summit in Philadelphia 2024, moderator Jason Glasgow, SVP at Allied World, asked an audience of cybersecurity experts a pressing question: What is the single most important control a company can implement?
While half the audience highlighted employee training, Kevin Golas, Managing Director at HaystackID, offered a different view—prioritizing access control as the most critical security measure.
“While training is important, access control is the number one [priority] for me,” said Golas. “Hackers always look to escalate privileges. If you put controls around access to critical information, it reduces your risk.”

When Erin Meyer stepped out of college with her graphic design degree, her initial vision was to join the creative world of advertising agencies. However, a connection with Andrea Wallack, then CEO and Founder of NightOwl, introduced her to the legal technology industry. In 2003, Erin joined NightOwl as the sole marketer, not yet aware that she was stepping into an expansive field that would shape her career.
“When I joined NightOwl, we offered document management and litigation copying services. So it was paper, paper, and more paper,” Erin shared during an interview on the EDRM Illumination Zone podcast. “Our headquarters in downtown Minneapolis was packed with loud copiers and boxes of paper. As our industry evolved, those copiers were replaced by computers and scanners.”
Read Erin's story about how she became the VP of Marketing Operations and fosters strong relationships to achieve marketing excellence.

Supercharge your innovation strategy and learn to use AI to solve your industry’s most pressing challenges. Join HaystackID at Microsoft Ignite, Microsoft’s biggest event of the year, in Chicago.
Last year’s Microsoft Ignite event illuminated how AI is changing every facet of our society, from transforming the doctor-patient relationship to bolstering the experience for people learning a new language. For us legal technologists, the event will show how to leverage this technology to drive efficiency in our daily workflows while increasing collaboration, security, and productivity.
Corporate legal departments face a similar phenomenon: achieving more with finite resources. Doing more with less is that much more challenging when considering the escalating risk and complexity teams encounter when handling government investigations and civil litigation.
To reinforce its mission of furthering legal tech education, the Government Investigations & Civil Litigation Institute (GICLI) will host its annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale this fall. A Platinum Sponsor, HaystackID, is attending the event alongside leading corporate and government practitioners to discuss the changing legal and regulatory landscape.
